Ask the Constitution

Can I join a protest or demonstration?

Yes

Yes, as long as it is peaceful and you are unarmed.

Article 37 gives every person the right to assemble, demonstrate, picket and present petitions to public authorities. The key condition is that this is done peaceably and unarmed. Like most rights, it can be limited by law only where Article 24's tests are met, and it may be limited for police and defence forces members.

β€œEvery person has the right, peaceably and unarmed, to assemble, to demonstrate, to picket, and to present petitions to public authorities.”

Article 37: Assembly, demonstration, picketing and petition
