Ask the Constitution

Am I Kenyan if only my mother (or only my father) is Kenyan?

Yes

Yes. You are a citizen by birth if either your mother or your father was a citizen on the day you were born.

Article 14 says a person is a citizen by birth if, on the day of birth, either parent is a citizen, whether or not the person was born in Kenya. Parliament may pass legislation limiting this for descendants of Kenyan citizens born outside Kenya.

β€œwhether or not the person is born in Kenya, either the mother or father of the person is a citizen.”

Article 14: Citizenship by birth
