Ask the Constitution

Does the State have to help young people get jobs and training?

Yes

Yes. The State must take measures, including affirmative action, so that the youth can access education, training and employment.

Article 55 requires the State to take measures so that young people access education and training, take part in political, social and economic life, access employment, and are protected from exploitation. Article 260 defines youth as people aged 18 to 34. It requires measures; it does not promise every young person a job.

β€œThe State shall take measures, including affirmative action programmes, to ensure that the youthβ€” (a) access relevant education and training;”
