Can a President be removed from office?
Yes, through impeachment by Parliament or on grounds of physical or mental incapacity.
Under Article 145, MPs can move to impeach the President for gross violation of the Constitution or law, serious reasons to believe a crime was committed, or gross misconduct; two-thirds of the National Assembly, then two-thirds of the Senate, must agree. Article 144 sets a separate process for incapacity.
“If at least two-thirds of all the members of the Senate vote to uphold any impeachment charge, the President shall cease to hold office.”
